Cute Cupcakes!

I have been loving cupcakes lately! I decided to use them as a decoation in one of my daughters bedrooms. I also use them to decorate for Birthdays at my house. I am sick of all the cheesy B-day decor out there, they just look cheap right? Anyway, This little project was soooo simple. And free! I just used supplies I already had around my house. I used Christmas ornaments for the cup cake! All I did was hot glue the ornaments inside cupcake cups, glue ric rac, and then use elmers glue to swirl around, or polka dot and then add glitter. Then I used little red pom poms that I had in the kids craft closet for the cherry on top. I used about three to glue around the little part that sticks up on the ornament. The glitter just adds so much to them. I LOVE anything that sparkles! I also used these cuties for my daughters tree in her room at Christmas!

They look so cute as a sweet little decoration in a little girls room.
Looks good enough to eat....but don't!

My daughter uses them to play "mom" she pretends to cook them in her kitchen and then serve them at her tea parties!

Candlestick Creations

I L.O.V.E dishes, tea cups/pots, platters, cake plates, etc. I think they are so charming! I have always loved the way they look, and how they can be used for so many different things. I have had a hard time finding cake plates that I love....so, I made some! I guess they are not really cake plates, I'm not sure what to call them, except awesome! I had a bunch of crystal candlestick holders that I never used. I also have random plates just laying around (remember, I LOVE them, so I have tons), and I glued them to the top of the candle sticks. (below is a picture of the BEST glue to use) It's as easy as that. There are so many ways you can use these guys! I've taken a few pictures to show you some ideas to get you started.

You can also stack several of them for a different look. If you don't have candlesticks or dishes just laying around- go to D.I.! Seriously, that place is the best! So many treasures! I think I might have a "look what I found at D.I." post coming soon.


This glue is perfect for this project. It takes a while to dry, but holds up great!

Great for any Holiday. This is how I am using them for Easter. I used them on my mantle at Christmas time with big sparkly ornaments on them.

They are really great for adding different heights to your decorating.

These are just a few ideas, the possibilities are endless!

Funky French Braids

Upside down french braid

It is a lot easier than it looks! If you have your child lay on the couch upside down it is a lot more comfortable, and fun for them then if you just have them flip their head upside down. This way it won't hurt their neck. The two keys to having any or these braids turn out good is to 1) part it really good with a rat tail comb. 2) secure the sectioned off piece of hair with an elastic or clip. then just start your french braid. I braided the hair all the way to the end and then I just wrapped it around at the top and stuck in a couple of bobby pins to hold it in a bun. Then just take the other section and do the same! It's a fun hair-do that gets a lot of compliments!
French braid twisted pony tail

For this hair-do, just section the hair into thirds. Two on top and the rest on bottom. Braid the two top sections and then put the bottom section in a pony tail. Next, take the two braids and cross them over the pony tail elastic. Wind them around and then cross them over the pony tail again. Fasten the two braids together behind the pony tail with an elastic. It is really easy, and really cute!

Diagonal French Braids

Just section into 4's doing a diagonal part. Start braiding one at a time. When you are done fasten them all together with an elastic. This is a great hair-do if you are dancing, or playing sports.

Got Ribbon?

I think most of us, especially those of us with girls know what I am talking about when I say Ribbon is a big FAT mess! I have had the hardest time in the past trying to control my ribbon mess. Seriously, with 4 little girls It was a big problem. I finally got sick of it being tied up in knots and hanging out of all three of my bathroom drawers! I thought that a shoe organizer would be perfect to help organize my ribbons. Look at what a wonderful job it does! Color coordinated and everything! It also works great for flower clips!

I'm not gonna lie, this next idea is awesome! One day while attending to some business in the bathroom I was pondering about the issue of what to do with the ribbon still on spools. That is when the thought came to me. I could use small tension rods to hang them in the little cabinet/shelf thing that was already hanging over my toilet. It is amazing! I feel like I am at a little store every time I go in there to cut some ribbon. I get to take the little pin out and pull out as much ribbon as I need and cut it! It's like shopping in my own home! Everything stays organized, and it's cute too!

Eat your heart out! Table cloths turned to window treatments

I love fabric, but I don't love paying for it! especially when I need a lot for a big project- like say curtains for instance. I have a pretty big window in my living room, and I figured I would need about 6 yards of fabric all together to sew some long curtains. Even if the fabric was on sale, or I had a coupon it would be pretty pricey! Sooooo, what else could I use? My awesome sis. Megan gave me the idea to use a table cloth. Yep- it works perfectly! And how exciting is it that the ends are already done for you? No sewing required! I just hung them up (2 table cloths) with those little clip hangy thingers and DONE! They are thicker than fabric would most likely be too! I love the way they look and I only spent 28 dollars on the set!

These curtain for my side light windows were also made out of a table cloth. It was a Christmas table cloth, but I loved the print, so when I saw it on clearance after Chrismas for 75% off, I had to have it! It cost me $3.75! It totally works in my house! It doesn't look like Christmas to me...no santa, trees, reindeer, its good right? So I have one on the other side of my door too. All I did was measure the window, add 2 inches, cut the cloth, make a 1 inch casing on both sides, and hang them up! New curtains for 3.75! Can't beat that!

Spray paint + me = LOVE!

There is nothing more clean and refreshing as a fresh coat of paint right? There is no easier way to make that possible than with a can or two of spray paint! If you have seen my previous posts, you know that I love changing things up. Making old thing new again is so rewarding. I am always thinking of how I can make things better. Soooo, spray paint has become my BFF! Below are some of the projects I have done recently with spray paint. You will see that you can spray paint pretty much anything! Hopefully you will get some ideas that inspire you to get out a can and spray! Below each project are some tips and ideas to help get you started.

This is a hutch that I painted with a gloss white Krylon spray paint. I NEVER use the cheap spray paint- well I guess I can't say never, it happened once, but it won't happen again! I promise it is worth the extra money to get the good stuff. This piece was already painted when I got it, so I didn't need to prime or sand. If the surface you want to put a fresh coat of paint on is already painted...lucky you! Just spray away! I used a gloss on this project because I thought it would look nice in my living room with a nice shiny finish. I love it! I usually use matte though. I guess it just depends on the look you are going for on each particular piece.

These canisters are on my kitchen counter. I was really sick of the boring stainless steel look. I didn't want to spend money on new ones since they were still in perfect condition, so what did I do? Spray paint! Ididn't know how the paint would stick on a shiny, smooth metal, but how would I know if I didn't try? So I found this awesome spray paint at Walmart. It is the Krylon brand, but it is called Fusion. You can use it to paint plastic, metal, and all kinds of different surfaces. It worked great! It looks smooth and perfect! I use them all the time and the paint has not come off even a little! I also changed the knobs to some crazy awesome knobs from anthropologie.

These are the bar stools that I posted earlier with the Mod Podge paper on top. I used a Krylon matte finish spray paint. The color is called Ocean mist. They were painted white to begin with, so I didn't have to prime or sand. I sprayed them..just one coat, and then after they were dry, I sanded them a little to give them a distressed look. I love the white paint showing through.

This is a Bunk Bed that I purchased for cheap from KSL. It was kindof ugly, but I saw its potential. The original finish was kindof glossy, so I had to sand it a little to just rough it up, and then spray on a spray primer. Then I used about 5-6 cans of Krylon Watermelon spray paint, and its done! I really love this bed now. My girls love it too!

This is a dresser that is also in my girls room. I found it at a yard sale for $5! I used a little spray primer, and then some black Krylon spray paint and then I had a completely new dresser! Changing knobs really makes a huge difference too. I just painted these white, they were gold before. It took about $9 in spray paint, and a couple hours to transform this dresser. It is so fun to see something that you paid $5 for turn into something that you love! I really wish I had before pictures of all of these projects! I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I just get so excited to when I decide to paint something that I just forget. I will remember next time, but for now just use you imagination!

Oh so charming...

I have this darling little candelabra light fixture in my babies nursery. I love it, but it just needed something more....you know, a little bling bling! I am all about that kind of crap! Soooo- I went to Hobby Lobby looking for some kind of sparkly jewels or something. I wasn't sure what I would find, but I had an idea in my head, and when that happens, I have to make it happen, or I go a Little crazy. I could not believe my eyes when I saw these beauties! They are charms made just for what I wanted! This never happens! Usually I have to get really creative and make stuff up, but this time they did it for me! They were on sale too! It was meant to be! So I bought 2 packs-(3 per pack) and rushed home to try them out. It was love at first sight! They could not have been easier to install, if you can even call it that, all you do is open the package and they magically stick to the light! Well I guess magnets are kindof like magic right? They have little magnets on them-that are really strong, and that is it! Super easy, and super awesome!

This is the dining room, we are focusing on the light fixture, I never really loved it, but once again I added a little bling, and ta da- its a new light for under $10!

This was really simple, but really made a huge difference. It was way cheaper than buying a new light! I just bought the strand of crystal bead trim that is pictured above. All I had to do now was measure it, cut it, and glue the ends together. I used hot glue for the ends, and you can't even really see where I had to glue it. Kinda looks like the light came that way! It just gives it a little bit of a softer, more shabby chic look.

Fun with Mod Podge!

I am always trying to find new cheap ways to change things up!
I have been loving all the darling scrapbook paper out there and wanted to use it to decorate with!

First I've posted a picture of the supplies you will need to get the fun started.

The coolest thing about Mod Podging furniture is that it is a quick and easy way to completely change its look and it is super durable too. Paper holds up suprisingly well on a table when covered in a thin layer of this magical stuff.

In order to do all of the projects below, grab your favorite scrapbook paper, sand the surface a little to rough it up, put a layer of Mod Podge on the target....put the paper down and smooth it the best you can. Wait about 25 minutes and you are ready to sand! I use a dry wall sanding sponge for most projects. For the bigger things I use an orbital hand sander. Seriously, don't worry about cutting the paper to the shape of the target before putting it down, there is no need, the sanding will take care of it and also give it a fun distressed edge. The last step is to paint a layer of Mod Poge on the top. this will give it a nice finished look, and also protect the paper from water and kids!

Now on to my projects..........

First I thought about a cute little table I have for my girls and their tea parties. I have tried to re-finish it, and I never liked the way it turned out...until now! I had this light bulb moment and thought- hey why not put paper on it? I got out the trusty Mod Podge and went to work! I Love the way it turned out!






I have been really wanting to replace all the knobs in my kitchen, but the man of the house said my knobs were just fine (he he..) So I came up with this fancy compromise....same knobs, new look! They are my FAVORITE! I don' think I could ever find any in a store this cute. In fact, I know I couldn't because believe me, I've looked!

Last But definately not least are my kitchen bar stools!!! I am completely in love with these little guys! They were pretty ugly before, but check them out now! See how nice the sanding made the edges look? I also sanded the top of the paper a little before I added the top layer of Mod Podge to give it that cute roughed up look!
